A prayer for the church

Dear God, please make us dangerous women and men.

Bless us with a tremendously restless discomfort with easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that we may seek truth boldly and love radically from deep within our souls.

Bless us with holy anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation, so that we may work tirelessly for justice, freedom, and peace for all people.

Bless us with tears to weep with those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, or the loss of all that they cherish, so that we may reach out our hands and our lives to comfort them and help transform their pain into joy.

And please, God, bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we really can make a difference in this world, so that we are able, with your grace, to actually do what others claim cannot be done.
