Holistic ministry—what happens when churches engage the world in both word and deed, through both evangelism and justice—is a relatively new term, reflecting how evangelicals rediscovered social activism as part of the biblical missional agenda.
But African American churches have been wording and deeding it for quite a long time! I was reminded of this by this short slide show on the legacy of activism in the African American church.
