Tooting Al’s Horn: Preaching Resource of the Year Award

MissionalPreachingby Sarah Withrow King

ESA holistic ministry director and co-President-elect Al Tizon is out of town for the weekend, speaking at the Turning the World Upside Down Leadership Conference in Iowa. He’s a humble guy, so he probably wouldn’t ever tell you this himself, but since he’s gone, I’m going to shout it from the rooftops:

Al’s book, Missional Preaching, has won the Outreach Magazine Preaching Resource of the Year Award!

Missional Preaching is an invitation and a challenge to today’s church leaders to practice preaching that makes a difference – not only in the church, but in the world. The book also includes semons from Greg Boyd, Shane Claiborne, Brenda Salter-McNeil, Ron Sider, and more. It’s a slim volume, written in Al’s accessible and experienced style, infused with the love he has for Christ and the world and his optimism for the possibilities of transformation in the world when folks live and practice this love in their communities both near and far.

So, the book deserves the award, and Al deserves a little round of applause for his work and commitment to producing resources that further the work of Christ in the world. If you haven’t picked up a copy, you can buy one at ESA’s store for a special “Congratulations, Al!” price of $11 (cheaper than Amazon!).
