What Kind of Life Will My Child Have?

Future-Momby Kristyn Komarnicki

That’s the question a woman asked a Down syndrome advocacy group when she found out she was expecting a son with Down syndrome. The video the group produced in response is one of the most beautiful pro-life statements I’ve ever seen. Watch it and feel the delight God takes in these children.

There are many reasons people choose to abort a pregnancy, but a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome is one of them. This video is a good reminder that apart from our worst fears of what life will be like, for a child or its parents, a life has been created by God through human agency. Humans often conjure the worst from the unknown, and we rarely imagine the beauty, especially when things appear “wrong” (as with a diagnosis of Down syndrome), that might come from the mystery the future holds.
